Netravali is a wildlife sanctuary, which means the road stops where it stops and the last stretch is on foot with your bag. The cabins are timber on stone, built by two families from Sanguem who still maintain them. Between June and September the river below is loud enough to hear from the deck and the path in is slick; between February and May it is dry and hot and the birds are the reason to come. We would rather you knew which of those you were booking.

What to expect
Most of this is the part other places leave until you arrive.
How hard is the walk in?
Nine minutes to three of the cabins, fourteen to Langit, on a stone path with about forty metres of ascent. You carry your own bag. In monsoon it is slippery and we will meet you with a light. If somebody in your party cannot do that carrying luggage, this is the wrong place and we will say so on the phone.
Is there really no wifi?
None, and mobile signal is one bar of Jio on the ridge and nothing lower down. There is a landline at the kitchen for anything urgent. About one booking a month cancels when they read this, which is the point of putting it here rather than in the confirmation email.
What about power?
Solar, running lights and fans from about 6pm to midnight, plus a charging point in the kitchen during the day. There is no air conditioning and no geyser — hot water is a wood-fired boiler, filled twice a day.
Can we come during the monsoon?
Yes, and it is the best and the hardest time. The river is loud, the valley is green in a way it is not for the rest of the year, and the path is genuinely slick. We close for two weeks in July when the sanctuary road floods, and those dates go up in April.
Are children welcome?
Over about eight, yes. Below that the decks are unfenced on the valley side and the walk in with a small child and bags is more than it sounds. We would rather turn down the booking.
